Now forming: AAA Interest Group on the Anthropology of Tourism

Dear colleagues:

We are writing to invite you to participate in a new American
Anthropological Association (AAA) Interest Group on the Anthropology
of Tourism.

Nearly 50 AAA members from around the world met in San Francisco last
November to form the scholarly network that will serve as the basis
for the new Interest Group. The Interest Group’s goals are to develop
collaborations within and outside of the AAA, promote our scholarly
efforts, create AAA panels and events, and exchange ideas and research
related to the anthropology of tourism. We have created a website to
share information about the group, its goals, and its members, as
well as syllabi and news on developments within this growing
subdiscipline: http://www.anthropolgyoftourism.net.

As part of the process of gaining formal recognition by the American
Anthropological Association as an official Interest Group, we ask all
interested AAA members to visit the web link below and provide your
name and contact information. This will constitute signing the
petition to create the Interest Group, as well as becoming a member.
Interest group membership is free; there are no dues and you can be a
member of multiple interest groups. However, you must be a member of
the AAA.

If you are not a member of the AAA, but would still like to be
involved, we encourage you join the Interest Group’s page on Facebook.

We look forward to celebrating the formation of this group at a
kick-off party during the AAAs in Chicago this coming November. We
hope to see you there!
