Julie Cruikshank, O.C.

The Canadian Anthropology Society is delighted to congratulate Julie
Cruikshank upon her induction as an Officer of the Order of Canada. Julie
Cruikshank has made path-breaking theoretical and practical contributions
in the exploration of narrative and oral history, based on decades of
learning and collaboration together with First Nations peoples of the
Yukon and British Columbia and also with indigenous peoples of Alaska and
Siberia. Her work is noted for its engagement with issues of oral history
and struggles for legitimacy, and for linking oral history and memory with
environmental anthropology and contemporary public issues. She is the
author of Life Lived Like a Story: Life Stories of Three Yukon Native
Elders (1990), Reading Voices: Dan Dha Ts'edenintth'e (1991), The Social
Life of Stories: Narrative and Knowledge in Northern Canada (1998), Do
Glaciers Listen? Local Knowledge, Colonial Encounters and Social
Imagination (2005), and of numerous articles. She is the recipient of
both the Victor Turner Award and the Julian Steward Award.

contributions théoriques et pratiques particulièrement novatrices en ce

résultat de décennies d'apprentissage et de collaboration avec les
