Editor-in-Chief, Anthropologica, Journal of the Canadian Anthropology Society
Applications are invited for the position of Editor-in-Chief,
Anthropologica, Journal of the Canadian Anthropology Society, for a
three-year term commencing May 1, 2011. The responsibilities of the Editor
are as follows:
(1) To create and determine editorial policy in regular consultation with
the French Manuscripts Editor and the Editorial Advisory Board;
(2) To supervise the peer review process for scholarly articles and
reviews in English;
(3) To consult regularly with the Treasurer of CASCA concerning the
financial management of the journal and, with the support of the Treasurer
and Executive, apply to SSHRC aid to scholarly publications programme
(next competition is expected to take place on June 30, 2011. Grants are
for 3 years);
(4) To act as the Association's representative in the negotiation of
agreements with secondary, electronic publishers and aggregators (e.g.
Proquest, JSTOR);
(5) To consult when necessary with publisher, Wilfrid Laurier University
Press, in co-ordination with the Managing Editor, and with the Manager of
the CASCA/Anthropologica Web Pages.
The Editor-in-Chief currently receives an annual stipend of $3000 which
can be applied toward the course relief. Many universities have internal
grant competitions or other procedures for the support of scholarly
journals that would supplement the stipend. The Editor-in-Chief is
expected to explore these funding avenues. CASCA provides travel and
lodging costs to attend the annual CASCA conference. The Editor-in-Chief
attends the meeting of the CASCA Executive which often takes place the day
before the conference.
