Public health and environmental health professionals, researchers,
policy-makers, academics and students from across the country and around
the world will meet in Edmonton, Alberta for the 2012 Annual Conference of
the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA).

Chief Public Health Officer's Report on the State of Public Health in
Canada, 2011: Youth and Young Adults (

tabled in Parliament on October 24, 2011.
In the CPHO's fourth annual report, he has chosen to focus on the state of
health and well-being of Canada's youth (aged 12 to 19 years) and young
adults (aged 20 to 29 years). The report highlights this period of the
life course, since it is a time of significant transition where many
lifelong attitudes and behaviours are established, setting the stage for
future health and well-being. The report also considers many health issues
affecting this population, such as physical and mental health, injury,
sexual and reproductive health, and substance use and abuse.
ICR New Principal Investigators Meeting
The CIHR Institute of Cancer Research is hosting a New Principal
Investigators Meeting that will occur in conjunction with the first
Canadian Cancer Research Conference, organized by the Canadian Cancer
Research Alliance. The meeting will take place at the Sheraton Centre
Toronto Hotel on November 27-30, 2011. This event is targeted towards new
faculty research members within their first five years of appointment at
Canadian Universities, including new scientists and clinician scientists

Collaborative Centres in HIV/AIDS Community-based Research
On July 26th, 2011, the CIHR HIV/AIDS Research Initiative launched the new
Collaborative Centres in HIV/AIDS Community-based Research. This new
funding tool is the result of feedback gatheredduring consultations with
the HIV/AIDS CBR community and was developed with the guidance of the
HIV/AIDS CBR Steering Committee. The objectives of this new funding
opportunity are to support, evolve and expand the collaborative work
between existing HIV/AIDS national structures with regional and/or
provincial HIV/AIDS Community Based Organizations and researchers in order
to foster the national coordination of HIV/AIDS Community Based Research
efforts.

Doctoral Fellowship in Health Policy, McGill Institute for Health and
Social Policy
The Institute for Health and Social Policy at McGill University (

the first data centre of comparative data on health care costs and quality
in the world's leading economies. This initiative will provide information
on national investments intended to address social determinants of health,
encourage public health approaches to prevention, and improve the
cost-effectiveness of medical care. Once complete, this data centre will
make it possible to determine which approaches to health care have the
best combined cost control with high quality health outcomes.

The Ontario Women's Health Scholars Awards 2012-2013
The Ontario Women's Health Scholars Award is administered by the Ontario
Council of Graduate Studies on behalf of Ontario government ministries. It
is open to Master's students, Doctoral students, and Post Doctoral
Fellows. Funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, a
Scholar Awards Program in Women's Health has been established to ensure
that Ontario attracts and retains pre-eminent women's health scholars.
"Echo" is an agency of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, and
replaces the Ontario Women's Health Council. The community of women's
health scholars fostered by this Awards program will excel, according to
internationally accepted standards of scientific excellence, in the
creation of new knowledge about women's health and its translation into
improved health for women, more effective health services and products for
women, and a strengthened health care system.

CQ Doctoral Dissertation Award: Methodological Excellence in Qualitative
Doctoral Dissertation
This award is given by the University of Toronto's Centre for Critical
Qualitative Health Research (

promote and acknowledge the achievements of doctoral graduates who have
completed exemplary qualitative research in the health sciences at
University of Toronto. The recipient of the award will receive an Award
Certificate which will be announced on the CQ listserv and website, and
conferred at the opening CQ Speaker Series event early in the fall.
Recipients will be invited to present their submission at a special
session of the Speaker Series.

Dr. Jill M. Saunders Award of Excellence in Health Technology Assessment
The Dr. Jill M. Sanders Award of Excellence in HTA (

celebrates individuals whose outstanding achievements have significantly
advanced the field of health technology assessment in Canada. The winner
of this award will receive a plaque, paid travel and accommodation, and

Symposium. The award is open to individuals who have made a significant
and lasting contribution to health technology assessment, evidence-based
drug reviews, or optimal technology utilization in Canada.

Rapport de l'administrateur en chef de la santé publique au Canada 2011 :
Jeunes et jeunes adultes (

transition, présenté au Parlement le 24 octobre 2011.
Dans son quatrième rapport annuel, il a choisi de se pencher sur l'état de
santé et le bien-être des jeunes (âgés de 12 à 19 ans) et des jeunes
adultes (âgés de 20 à 29 ans). Le rapport attire l'attention sur cette
période de la vie, car c'est une période de transition importante où des
attitudes et des comportements sont adoptés pour la vie et préparent ainsi
le terrain pour une santé et un bien-être à venir. De plus, le rapport
examine les diverses questions de santé qui touchent cette population,
comme la santé physique et mentale, les blessures, la santé sexuelle et
reproductive, et la consommation et l'abus de drogues.
La Réunion des nouveaux chercheurs principaux de l'IC
L'Institut du cancer des IRSC présente la Réunion pour les nouveaux
chercheurs principaux qui aura lieu conjointement avec la première
Conférence canadienne sur la recherche sur le cancer, parrainé par
l'Alliance canadienne pour la recherche sur le cancer. La réunion se
tiendra à l'hôtel Sheraton Centre Toronto du 27 au 30 novembre 2011. Cette
événement vise les nouveaux chercheurs membres du corps professoral des
universités canadiennes depuis moins de cinq ans, y compris les nouveaux
chercheurs et les cliniciens-chercheurs dans la communauté de recherche

Les 15es Journées annuelles de santé publique
Les 15es Journées annuelles de santé publique (JASP), c'est un
rendez-vous, du 28 novembre au 1er décembre 2011 à l'hôtel Fairmont le
Reine Elizabeth, à Montréal. Pour sa quinzième édition, l'événement
accueille une rencontre internationale sur la thématique des écoles
promotrices de santé les 28 et 29 novembre 2011. Tous les décideurs et
acteurs du Québec et d'ailleurs concernés par la réussite, la santé et le
bien-être des jeunes en contexte scolaire sont conviés à ce rendez-vous
fondamental et décisif. Dix journées thématiques et quatre ateliers
méthodologiques de grande qualité vous sont également offerts les 30
novembre et 1 décembre 2011.

L'objectif particulier de cette opportunité de financement consiste à
financer des équipes de chercheurs et de responsables de politiques pour
mener de la recherche appliquée sur les politiques et les services de
santé qui sera utile aux gestionnaires et/ou responsables de politiques.

subventions ou des bourses pour des activités de recherche et
d'application des connaissances qui ne sont pas couvertes par les autres
programmes des IRSC ; et appuyer des organismes et des individus dont les
buts concordent avec la vision, le mandat et les orientations stratégiques

Centres de collaboration pour la recherche communautaire sur le VIH/sida
Le 26 juillet 2011, l'Initiative de recherche sur le VIH/sida a lancé les
nouveaux Centres de collaboration pour la recherche communautaire sur le
VIH/sida. Ce nouvel outil de financement est le fruit des commentaires
reçus au cours des consultations tenues avec le milieu de la recherche
communautaire. Il a été élaboré avec l'aide du Comité directeur de la
recherche communautaire (RC). Cette nouvelle possibilité de financement a
pour objectif de faire progresser et d'étendre le travail de collaboration
entre les structures nationales existantes sur le VIH/sida et les
organismes communautaires régionaux et/ou provinciaux de lutte contre le
VIH/sida et les chercheurs afin de favoriser la coordination nationale des
efforts de recherche communautaire sur le VIH/sida.
