Job Posting and CRC - Health and Social Policy, McGill University

Job Posting - McGill University

HEALTH & SOCIAL POLICY

Date Posted: October 01, 2010
Region: Quebec
Institution: McGill University
Discipline: Public Health
Web Link: http:// www.mcgill.ca/ihsp/

The Institute for Health and Social Policy at McGill University currently
has junior and senior faculty positions available, as well as a Canada
Research Chair.

The Institute for Health and Social Policy was created to conduct and
support world class research into how social conditions impact on health
and to promote the translation of research findings into policies and
programs on national and global scales that change the social conditions
under which the worst off live. Involving dozens of researchers from
across all faculties at McGill, the Institute is home to a global health
and social policy data center on 192 countries, as well as in depth
studies on 5 continents. Institute policy collaborations are taking place
with the WHO, UNICEF, and ILO, as well as with Canadian and US
policymakers. More information about the Institute can be found at:
www.mcgill.ca/ihsp/.

These full-time positions are collaborative appointments between the
Institute and the home faculty department best suited for the candidate.
The appointments will be with a department in either the Faculty of Arts
or the Faculty of Medicine. These unique faculty openings will also have
protected research time. The successful candidate will devote half of
his/her time to leading collaborative research and developing policy
efforts at the Institute, and the other half will be spent at the home
department with a reduced teaching load and a regular tenure or tenure
track appointment. The home department will be matched to the
applicant’s interests and background.

Because of the strategic role these positions will play in the Institute,
as well as in their home departments, experience conducting empirical and
comparative studies and conducting directly policy relevant research is
important. Expertise on Latin America, Africa, and/or Asia as well as OECD
countries is strongly preferred.

Applicants should hold a PhD, MD or equivalent degree in public policy,
economics, political science, public health, sociology, demography,
epidemiology, social work, geography, social medicine, history,
anthropology, philosophy, or other related field. Candidates should have a
strong publishing track record in fields examining how medical public
health and social policy impact on population health.

Salary based on qualifications and experience.

To apply, please send a CV, 3 recent research articles, a statement of
research interests and contact information for three referees to the
attention of: Erin Bresnahan, Institute for Health and Social Policy,
McGill University, 1130 Pine Avenue West, Montreal, Quebec, H3A 1A3 or to:
facultyapplications.ihsp@mcgill.ca. (Electronic submission is encouraged.
Please put “Application for Faculty Position” in the subject heading.)
Applications will be considered beginning on November 15th, 2010.

All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and
permanent residents will be given priority.

McGill University is committed to equity in employment and diversity. It
welcomes applications from indigenous peoples, visible minorities, ethnic
minorities, persons with disabilities, women, persons of minority sexual
orientations and gender identities and others who may contribute to
further diversification.
