CFHSS's Annual General Meeting on March 29
The CFHSS 2012 Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting will be
held in Montreal and will coincide with the conference on the work of
Charles Taylor on the occasion of his 80th birthday.
The Annual Conference will take place the morning of Thursday March
29th, at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth. The Annual General Meeting,
open to members of the General Assembly and registered observers,
will take place at the Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth the afternoon of
March 29th.

Canada Prize winners to be announced and feted at special award
ceremony on March 30
The Canada Prize, which recognizes outstanding scholarly works in the
social sciences and humanities, will be presented at a special award
ceremony on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the MusÉe des beaux-arts in

March Big Thinking lecture continues streak of success
On March 8, Dr. Alexandre SÉvigny addressed a sold out room on
Parliament Hill, providing insight about Question Period, political
communications and the influence of the media, and social media in
particular. MPs and senators--and the following day their staffers
during a special workshop we arranged--took advantage of Alex's
theoretical and practical knowledge to learn more about how
authenticity and the human touch could help them build community with

CIHR is looking for input from the social sciences and humanities
The Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) is proposing changes
to the way it funds health research and to its peer review process.
They've initiated a consultation process that invites comments on
their draft design document -

. CIHR is accepting feedback until March 30. CFHSS has convened a
Blue Ribbon panel of experts from across Canada who will, under the
guidance of our Vice-President of Research Policy, Karen Grant,
develop recommendations for submission during the consultation

We have a new organizational website in the works--one that will put
outstanding social sciences and humanities research and members in
the spotlight. Has one of your colleagues embarked on a project
exploring important social issues? Is your work focused on improving
the well-being of Canadians and people around the world? Is there a
new creative endeavour being explored at your institution? We are
looking for short 250 word descriptions or 500 word blog posts (or
even the ideas to help us craft either of the above). Share your

Les IRSC sollicitent les commentaires du milieu des sciences humaines
Les Instituts de recherche en santÉ du Canada (IRSC) proposent des
changements À leur faÇon de financer la recherche en santÉ et À
leur processus d'Évaluation par les pairs. Les IRSC ont mis en
Œuvre un processus de consultation pour obtenir des commentaires sur
la version prÉliminaire de leur document conceptuel -
