one-year limited-term position at the level of Assistant Professor, which

The Department of Sociology & Anthropology currently offers a
baccalaureate degree program in Arts with a major, minor, and Honours in
Sociology & Anthropology.
Limited-term faculty are hired into the teaching/service (TS) pattern,
which focuses on teaching and service only.
The successful applicant must be qualified to teach ANTH 2229:
Anthropology of "Race", a biologically based historical and critical
approach to the study of race. S/he will also be able to teach
introductory courses in anthropology and senior-level courses in
biological anthropology. The successful applicant must also be involved in
course, program, discipline, and department affairs.
A Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related discipline is preferred; a Master's
degree is required. Preference will be given to candidates with
demonstrated teaching excellence.

Children and Global Development - Tier 1 Canada Research Chair

CANADA RESEARCH CHAIR IN CHILDREN AND GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at Dalhousie University
invites applications for a Tier I Canada Research Chair on "Children and
Global Development." The appointment will be at the rank of Professor and
will be conditional on the successful applicant being approved as a Tier 1
Research Chair by the CRC secretariat. The position is open with regard to
disciplinary specialization, with a primary appointment in one of the
Faculty's Departments (Classics, English, French, German, History,
International Development Studies, Music, Philosophy, Political Science,
Russian Studies, Sociology and Social Anthropology, Spanish and Latin
American Studies or Theatre). A research emphasis on the area of children
and conflict would be an asset. Dalhousie University has growing strength
in the broad area of "Children in Challenging Contexts", including
researchers in the School of Social Work and the Faculty of Medicine as
well as FASS. This strength is reflected, for example, in a new Network
Centres of Excellence Knowledge Mobilization grant on Children in
Challenging Contexts and the Centre for Foreign Policy Studies Child
Soldier/Conflict Affected Youth initiatives. The successful candidate will
be expected to sustain a strong research program of their own, and in so
doing actively contribute to intra- and inter- faculty collaborations in
this area of emphasis.
Candidates must have a PhD, an outstanding research profile, and an
innovative and original research programme; a strong track-record of
obtaining external funding; and the ability to work co-operatively,
provide leadership in an interdisciplinary environment, develop
multi-faceted research projects, and work with graduate students and/or
post-doctoral fellows. Although this is primarily a research appointment,
the appointee will be expected to teach at the graduate and undergraduate
level.

The Faculty of Education at the University of Victoria seeks applications
for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Associate or Assistant
Professor in Indigenous Education. The successful applicant will
contribute leadership and expertise 1) to implement the new Bachelors and
Masters Degrees in Indigenous Language Revitalization, and 2) to other
opportunities to integrate Indigenous knowledge into all academic areas
within the Faculty and across the University. The position starting date
is July 1, 2012.
The University of Victoria includes a large and diverse representation of
Indigenous faculty and staff from around the world. The Indigenous
Education team currently includes three Indigenous faculty, one holding a
Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Knowledge and Learning, along with
four staff who share responsibility for program development and student
support. Together we are committed to working with Indigenous communities
to develop high quality and responsive educational programs and research.
The successful candidate will have:
• Indigenous ancestry with lived experience in Indigenous communities,
cultures and traditions;
• A demonstrated commitment to community-based collaboration and partnership;
• An earned doctoral degree completed at the time of appointment;
• Knowledge of an Indigenous language;
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research.
Previous teaching experience in a public, private or band school and
experience doing community-based cooperative research would be assets.
Responsibilities for this position include:
• Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on Indigenous Language
Revitalization and Indigenous education.
• Supervising graduate students conducting research on Indigenous language
revitalization and mentoring undergraduate students.
• Establishing and supporting consultation with educational agencies and
Indigenous communities to facilitate constructive relationships with the
Faculty.
• Maintaining an active research and publication program
• Contributing to department, faculty and university service activities.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
