Session: SOCIAL JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVISM IN LATIN AMERICA
Organizer and Chair: Carla Guerrón Montero (University of Delaware)
In Latin America, applied anthropology has been traditionally concerned
with social justice and human rights activism, helping to ease away the
tension between beliefs and practices of local cultures and Œuniversal human
rights;¹ In this session, participants present ongoing interdisciplinary
work that connects human rights and social justice activism with issues
related to the construction of [childhood, personhood, family, etc--topics
to be determined by participants] and sexuality, in Latin America.
Participants will present theoretical and methodological approaches used in
their respective projects, as well as specific cases where they have engaged
in work along these lines.
