Canada Research Chair in Human Displacement and International Migration

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Western Ontario
invites applications for a Tier II Canada Research Chair in the area of
Human Displacement and International Migration. We seek a researcher
whose work can shed light in both theoretical and ethnographic terms on
the processes driving migration and displacement and the consequences
of such movement. This research will be integrated into our graduate
program and will be closely allied to the Centre for Migration and
Ethnic Relations in the Faculty of Social Science. Detailed information

BC ethnographies

Hello Colleagues,

I¹ve had a series of blog discussion with Tad McIlwraith as a result of his
call for a list of BC ethnographies (see: http://tinyurl.com/29squal ).
What has piqued my curiosity is that all of the ethnographies that have
been listed are about First Nations people.

So, my question to you: Can you suggest ethnographies about British
Columbia that focus on non-aboriginal peoples. I am looking for works that
are clearly anthropological. There are books by sociologists, historians,
geographers, about non-aboriginal peoples. But what I would like to find
are those ethnographies written by anthropologists set in BC, the Yukon, or
Alaska that are not about aboriginal people.

The Department of Anthropology in the Faculty of Arts invites applications
for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
Anticipated date of commencement is July 1, 2011.

The successful applicant will be a sociocultural anthropologist, have a
Ph.D. by the time of appointment, and be committed to thorough
ethnographic research that is cross-cultural, socially grounded, and
preferably in a setting other than North America, the Himalayas, Amazonia,
Europe, and Oceania. Candidates should show evidence of, or potential for,
an excellent program of research in sociocultural anthropology leading to
high-quality publications. We seek candidates who are versed in both
classical and contemporary anthropological theory, who complement current
departmental strengths, and whose research clearly informs their ability
to teach an ethnographic area course and several topics courses. Expertise
that can contribute to the creation of a Master's Program with an emphasis
on morality and ethics is an asset.

The Department of Critical Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at
Humboldt State University will be conducting a faculty search in Fall
2010.

We are seeking candidates broadly trained in comparative Ethnic Studies,
who place an analysis of the intersections of race, sexuality, class,
gender, and nationality at the center of their scholarship and teaching.
In addition, the candidates should be prepared to offer two courses per
year in African American Studies as part of the CRGS curriculum.
Additional desirable qualifications may include one or more of the
following specializations: Critical Race Studies, American Studies,
Diaspora Studies, Cultural Studies, Subaltern Studies, Multicultural Queer
Studies, Feminist Studies, or Postcolonial Studies. We seek

*NEXUS* is seeking submissions for a *SPECIAL ISSUE** on the "Anthropology
of Infectious Disease," *in order to showcase unique work in this topic area
from current and former students in the McMaster University Department of
Anthropology. We also welcome and encourage submissions from non-McMaster
students.*

This topic has been a particular area of interest for many former & current
McMaster Anthropology students. We are seeking to highlight your scholarly
works in this topic area, whether or not the work was produced during your
McMaster University course and/or thesis work. Former McMaster students in
undergraduate and graduate courses have successfully compiled their
anthropology of infectious disease and health papers into published volumes
as well as published journal articles. We wish to continue this tradition
with a Special Issue of our department's own peer-reviewed, four-field
Anthropology journal, Nexus! Submissions from non-McMaster students are also
very welcome.

We hope that you will consider submitting any of your Anthropology of
Infectious Disease papers, articles, or other works to our Special Issue. As
with other academic peer-reviewed journals, our double-blind review process
