KT Training Workshop
The Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR) and the UBC
University-Industry Liaison Office (UILO) are partnering to bring the
highly regarded Scientist Knowledge Translation Training Workshop (SKTT™)
to Western Canada for the first time. The workshop will be held in
Vancouver, on Monday May 30th and Tuesday, May 31st.
This two-day, practice-oriented course, initially developed for scientists
at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, allows participants to
develop a fundamental skill set and competencies around creating and
implementing a knowledge translation (KT) plan that can help generate
research impact, promote research utilization, and ensure that research
findings reach the appropriate audiences.

CIHR Roadmap Signature Initiative in Community-Based Primary Healthcare
(co-led by IHSPR and IPPH)
Pre-announcement: The Canadian Institutes of Health Research - Institute
of Health Services and Policy Research (CIHR-IHSPR) and its partners are
launching a major ten-year initiative to fund research that supports the
delivery of high-quality community-based primary healthcare (CBPHC) across
Canada. A strong foundation of research evidence in CBPHC - the first and
most frequent point of contact with the healthcare system - is key in
helping to achieve better health outcomes, improved equity, an overall
enhanced patient experience, and other system-wide benefits.
The CIHR CBPHC Initiative will support researchers to conduct original
research, build capacity, and translate evidence for uptake into practice
and policy through two major funding tools:
CBPHC Team Grants will support inter-disciplinary, cross-jurisdictional
teams of researchers to conduct excellent research, to provide superior
research training and mentorship, and to engage in knowledge translation
activities. The first launch of CBPHC Team Grants will take place in Fall
2011. Successful Teams will receive funding of up to $500,000 per year for
up to five years to address the following research priority areas:
• Better Systems: Chronic Disease Prevention and Management in
Community-Based Primary Healthcare
• Access to Appropriate Community-Based Primary Healthcare for Vulnerable
Populations
In order to foster the development of prospective teams, CBPHC Planning
Grants will be launched in April 2011. Offered under the Meetings,
Planning and Dissemination Grants program, these $25,000 Planning Grants
will support researchers to come together to build active and meaningful
collaborations and to understand the existing CBPHC research landscape,
including needs and priorities, before embarking on a full CBPHC Team
Grant application. (Note: Teams who plan to apply for a CBPHC Team Grant
are not required to apply for a CBPHC Planning Grant).
CBPHC Scientist Awards will provide outstanding CBPHC providers with
support to conduct, translate, and use practice-relevant research.
Generally modelled after the CIHR Clinician Scientist Award, the CBPHC
Scientist Award will allow CBPHC providers with a high aptitude for
research to investigate issues that present in their day-to-day work and
to subsequently translate results into practice. The first launch of CBPHC
Scientist Awards will take place in 2012.

2011 NSERC Collaborative Health Research Projects (CHRP) Program
The Collaborative Health Research Projects (CHRP) Program supports
focussed interdisciplinary collaborative research projects involving any
field of the natural sciences or engineering and any field of the health
sciences. Proposed research projects should be innovative and lead to
health benefits for Canadians, more effective health services, and/or
economic development in health-related areas. All applicant teams are
required to demonstrate they will engage and collaborate with a
knowledge/technology user organization that could benefit from the
research results. Typically, support will be for up to three years for
defined projects with clear milestones and decision points.

American Association for the Advancement of Science - 2012 Annual Meeting
The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) will be
holding its annual meeting next year in Vancouver from February 16 to 20,
2012. The AAAS meeting is the largest gathering of its kind in the world.
This will be the first time that it has been held in Canada in more than
30 years.
The Vancouver meeting presents an exceptional opportunity for the Canadian
research community to meet across all disciplines, showcase Canada's
research and innovation, and place the themes and issues that resonate
strongly in this country on the agenda.
The theme chosen for the 2012 meeting, "Flattening the World: Building the
21st Century Global Knowledge Society," reflects the AAAS's desire to
reach out and engage international dialogue and collaboration for
solutions to the global challenges we face.
We would like to encourage you to propose symposia and speakers for the
Vancouver meeting.
The AAAS Annual Meeting Scientific Program Committee is particularly
interested in proposals that highlight the theme and focus on solutions to
global challenges. Proposals that are not directly related to the theme
will also be considered if they involve ground-breaking areas of research,
new and exciting developments, or cross-cutting activities in support of
science, technology and education.
Proposals that include speakers from a broad range of disciplines,
institutions and nations, representing the diversity of science and

Secondary Analysis of Health Databases
The CIHR Institute of Human Development, Child & Youth Health and its
partners is pleased to announce the launch of the Secondary Analysis of
Health Databases funding opportunity. Secondary analysis grants are
intended to provide an opportunity for expert analysis of existing data
sets and by doing so, improve the availability of evidence for
decision-making. The program is intended to achieve a balanced and
comprehensive set of analyses that will create new knowledge in the area
of maternal and child population health and health care.
The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $2 000 000,
enough to fund approximately 20 grants. This amount may increase if
additional funding partners participate. The maximum amount per grant is $
$50 000 per year for up to 2 years.

Pre-announcement of the first joint research activity – hypertension
The Global Alliance for Chronic Disease (GACD), a consortium of health
organizations that includes CIHR, announced on December 8, 2010, its
intention to release a Request for Applications (RFA) on Implementation
Research on Hypertension in Low and Middle Income Countries, inviting
investigators to submit proposals to improve effective approaches to the
prevention and control of hypertension. The final announcement is expected
in April 2011.

Comparative Program on Health and Society (CPHS) Fellowships at the Munk
School of Global Affairs
Since 2001, the CPHS has been funding outstanding young scholars who
conduct innovative research on the social dimensions of health. As the
CPHS moves into its second decade, they have adopted a renewed vision of
the social determinants of health which recognizes the complexity and
interrelatedness of domestic, transnational, regional and global factors
that may impact on health conditions and access to entrenched health
inequalities may require policy-makers, communities and researchers to
grapple with challenging ethical, human rights and social justice
questions.

The Canadian Journal of Community Mental Health (CJCMH) is an
interdisciplinary publication devoted to sharing information on the mental
well-being of Canadians and their communities. CJCMH invites submissions
to a special issue sponsored by the Canadian Population Health Initiative
of the Canadian Institute for Health Information. The special issue will
be dedicated to mental health promotion from a population health
perspective, with particular emphasis on equity and the role of social
determinants of health. We hope to elicit papers that explore a variety of
research and practice-based perspectives from a range of disciplines, and
from health and social care professionals, mental health policy and
decision-makers, and academic researchers. Papers may address:
• Links between social factors (such as employment, life balance, or the
social environment) and mental well-being

The Population Health Intervention Research Network (PHIRNET) and the
National Collaborating Centres (NCCs) for Public Health are pleased to
announce an application process to award a two-year, full-time
Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) in Population Health Intervention Research.
The purpose of this fellowship is to conduct an in-depth case study, as an
implementation evaluation, of the development of the collective program of
the National Collaborating Centres for Public Health. The award amount is
$40,000 per year for two years. A research allowance of $5,000 per year
for two years will also be provided, to support data collection and
conduct knowledge translation and dissemination activities.

offers excellence scholarships at the doctoral and postdoctoral levels.
The students' project must be related to one of the research domains of
IRSPUM. The doctoral scholarships (20,000$ for one year) aim at recruiting

Exciting PhD research opportunity - Health equity in greenfield urban
development
Health and well-being considerations have become more prominent in urban
planning endeavours in recent years. Many benchmarks, toolkits, planning
instruments andtechnologies have been developed and advocated over the
last decade.
Whether these impact on health equity through action on social and
political determinants is yet unclear, however. There is a very exciting
opportunity in Geelong (Victoria, Australia) to investigate this issue not
just post-hoc but pro-actively. A new neighborhood is going to be built
just south of the current built-up area of the City of Greater Geelong.
Armstrong Creek, as it is called, will be home to some 60,000 new
residents a decade from now.
Initial research mapping of this health and urban planning scenario has
been completed.
This has involved the identification of planning stakeholders, and
completion and approval of an ethics application with the Deakin
University Human Research Committee.
Specific theoretical and methodological flavours can still be applied to
this research topic.

Public Health and the Agricultural Rural Ecosystem (PHARE) Graduate
Training Scholarships
This Canadian Institutes of Health Research Strategic Training Initiative
in Health Research (CIHR-STIHR) funded graduate training program draws
skills from across Canada to respond to changing demographics and
technology and to address the health challenges facing persons living in
rural Canada as they seek a healthy, safe and sustainable lifestyle.
As a result of intensification of agricultural production and profound
changes in rural demographics and health service opportunities in Canada
and globally, we are faced with health and safety issues, and community
health challenges not considered a decade ago. The world will continue to
shrink while interdependency among the peoples of the world will continue
to grow. There are strong interdependencies between the agricultural and
economic system on one hand and the environmental and ecological system on
the other hand. Developing a critical mass of Canadian and international
trained researchers with a strong training background in research, ethics,
knowledge translation and the strengths of interdisciplinary research will
assist in supporting the challenges ahead. The health of rural people and
the environment encompasses a wide range of disciplines. These may
include, but are not confined to epidemiology, hydrology, immunology and
microbiology, molecular biology, agricultural sciences, engineering,
occupational health and hygiene, toxicology, cellular biology, health
policy, health law, political science, population health, and other
related disciplines.
The PHARE program provides scholarship support to graduate students at the
Master's, PhD and Postdoctoral level. It is a virtual program, accessible
through any eligible Canadian University.
Value: (maximum)
Masters $18,000 for one year PhD
$21,000 for two years Post
Doctoral $37,500 for one year
Eligibility:
Accepted to or enrolled in a graduate program in a Canadian university.
The trainee must have a research program and a supervisor with a focus
related to the PHARE objectives. Research questions should pertain to one
of four theme areas: (1) What we eat and drink, (2) What we breathe, (3)
How we live, or (4) How we work.

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Training Grant in
Population Intervention for Chronic Disease Prevention: A Pan-Canadian
program is offering interdisciplinary training awards for full time
graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. The program is a
collaborative effort of four institutions - University of Waterloo;
Ontario Tobacco Research Unit/University of Toronto; University of
Alberta; and The University of British Columbia - with 65 mentors from 18
institutions in nine provinces. The program is funded by CIHR, the Heart
and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) and Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) and
offers a specialized, interdisciplinary training experience that
supplements mainstream graduate and post-doctoral programs.
One year stipends at CIHR rates and top-up awards for students with other
scholarships are available. Full details and application materials are

GHRI is a health research funding partnership of five agencies and
departments of the Government of Canada: Canadian International
Development Agency (CIDA); Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR);
Health Canada (HC); the International Development Research Centre (IDRC),
and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC).
The current GHRI Memorandum of Understanding will soon expire and must be
renewed by its partners by November 2011. Drafting the business plan will
support GHRI decision-making on its future direction and is critical in
the renewal process of the partnership.
GHRI seeks a consultant who will write the business plan. Up to $30,000 is

sujets scientifiques.
Ils permettent au public d'interagir avec des experts dans un domaine en
particulier dans un café, un pub ou un restaurant.

Analyse de données longitudinales - cours abrégé en ligne

La Société canadienne d'épidémiologie et de biostatistique est heureuse
d'offrir un cours abrégé interactif en ligne portant sur l'analyse de
données longitudinales. Ce cours en deux parties prend la forme d'un
webinaire et s'adresse aux personnes souhaitant améliorer leurs
connaissances et leurs aptitudes relativement aux méthodes avancées de
statistique quantitative employées pour l'analyse de données
longitudinales.

Initiative phare du plan stratégique des IRSC sur les soins de santé
primaires communautaires (SSPC) (codirigée par l'ISPS et l'ISPP)
Préavis - L'Institut des services et des politiques de la santé des
Instituts de recherche en santé du Canada (ISPS des IRSC) et ses
partenaires lancent une initiative pluriannuelle en vue de financer la
recherche appuyant la prestation de soins de santé primaires
communautaires (SSPC) de grande qualité partout au Canada. L'établissement
d'assises solides à partir des données de la recherche sur les SSPC –
principal point d'accès au système de santé – est essentiel à
l'amélioration des résultats cliniques, de l'équité et de l'expérience
globale du patient, en plus de procurer d'autres avantages pour l'ensemble
du système.
L'initiative stratégique des IRSC sur les SSPC appuiera les chercheurs
pour la tenue de recherches originales, le renforcement des capacités et
l'intégration des données de recherche à la pratique et aux politiques.
Le premier lancement des subventions d'équipe en SSPC aura lieu à
l'automne 2011. Les équipes choisies recevront un financement jusqu'à
concurrence de $500,000 par an pour cinq ans afin de répondre au priorités
de recherche suivantes:
• prévention et prise en charge thérapeutique des maladies chroniques par
les SSPC;
• accès à des SSPC appropriés pour les populations vulnérables.
Afin de promouvoir la création d'équipes potentielles, un concours de
subventions de planification sera lancé en avril 2011. Offertes dans le
cadre du programme de subventions pour Réunions, planification et
dissémination, ces subventions d'une valeur de 25 000 $ permettront aux
chercheurs de se réunir pour bâtir des collaborations véritables et
explorer le paysage actuel de la recherche sur les SSPC, y compris ses
besoins et priorités, avant d'entreprendre une demande de subvention
détaillée. (Note: les équipes qui ont l'intention de demander une
subvention d'équipe en SSPC ne sont pas tenues de demander une subvention
de planification en SSPC).
Les bourses de chercheur en SSPC aideront les fournisseurs de SSPC
exceptionnels à effectuer, à appliquer et à utiliser des recherches utiles
aux pratiques. Généralement inspirées des bourses de clinicien-chercheur
des IRSC, les bourses de chercheur en SSPC permettront aux fournisseurs
dotés des compétences voulues en recherche d'explorer des questions qui se
présentent dans leur travail quotidien et, ensuite, de mettre en pratique
les résultats de leurs études. Le premier concours de bourses de chercheur
en SSPC aura lieu en 2012.

Ateliers d'été 2011 de l'IDSEA des IRSC
L'IDSEA des IRSC et ses partenaires ont le plaisir d'annoncer leurs 7e
ateliers d'été annuels en pharmacologie materno-foetale (AE -
Pharmacologie) et en épidémiologie reproductive et périnatale (AE -
Épidémiologie). Les ateliers auront lieu en juillet 2011.

comité consultatif de la recherche sur le VIH/sida des IRSC (CCRVSI) et

représentants de la communauté du VIH/sida.

CRSNGC Programme de projets de recherche concertée sur la santé
Le Programme de projets de recherche concertée sur la santé (PRCS) appuie
des projets de recherche interdisciplinaire concertée ciblés dans
n'importe quel domaine des sciences naturelles ou du génie et des sciences
de la santé. Les projets proposés devraient être novateurs et contribuer à
améliorer l'état de santé des Canadiens, à rendre les services de santé
plus efficaces et à assurer le développement économique dans les secteurs
liés à la santé. Le candidat doit confirmer qu'il s'engage, au nom de son
équipe, à collaborer avec un organisme-utilisateur des connaissances et de
la technologie qui pourrait bénéficier des résultats de la recherche. En
général, l'appui financier sera accordé pendant au plus trois ans à des
projets définis comportant des étapes-jalons et des points de décision
clairement énoncés.

American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) - Assemblée
annuelle de 2012
l'American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) tiendra sa
prochaine assemblée annuelle à Vancouver, du 16 au 20 février 2012. Il
s'agit de la plus grande assemblée en son genre au monde, et c'est la
première fois en plus de 30 ans qu'elle aura lieu au Canada.
Cette assemblée à Vancouver est une occasion exceptionnelle pour les
membres du milieu canadien de la recherche qui œuvrent dans toutes les
disciplines de se réunir, de faire valoir la recherche et l'innovation au
Canada et de porter à l'ordre du jour les thèmes et les enjeux qui
revêtent une grande importance pour le pays.
Le thème de l'assemblée de 2012, Flattening the World: Building the 21st
Century Global Knowledge Society, illustre le désir de l'AAAS d'établir
une collaboration et de lancer le dialogue à l'échelle internationale afin
de trouver des solutions aux problèmes mondiaux auxquels nous sommes
confrontés.
Nous vous invitons à proposer des colloques et des conférenciers pour
l'assemblée annuelle de l'AAAS à Vancouver.
Le comité du programme scientifique de l'assemblée annuelle de l'AAAS
aimerait tout particulièrement recevoir des propositions qui soulignent le
thème et mettent l'accent sur des solutions aux problèmes mondiaux. Il
prendra aussi en considération des propositions qui ne sont pas
directement liées au thème si elles portent sur des domaines de recherche
révolutionnaires, des percées nouvelles et passionnantes ou des activités
intersectorielles à l'appui des sciences, de la technologie ou de
l'enseignement.
L'AAAS aimerait particulièrement recevoir des propositions de
conférenciers provenant d'un large éventail de disciplines,
d'établissements et de pays qui illustrent la diversité des sciences et de
la société.

Analyse secondaire des bases de données
L'Institut du développement et de la santé des enfants et des adolescents
des IRSC et ses partenaires ont le plaisir d'annoncer le lancement dune
possibilité de financement portant sur l'analyse secondaire des bases de
données. Les subventions pour effectuer des analyses secondaires ont pour
but de permettre aux experts d'analyser les ensembles de données existants
et, ce faisant, d'améliorer la disponibilité des données probantes pour la
prise de décision. Le programme vise à obtenir un ensemble d'analyses
équilibré et complet qui permettra de créer de nouvelles connaissances
dans le domaine de la santé maternelle et infantile et les soins de santé.
Le montant total disponible dans le cadre de cette possibilité de
financement est de 2 000 000 $, ce qui devrait permettre d'accorder
environ 20 subventions. Ce montant pourra augmenter si d'autres
partenaires financiers décident de participer. Le montant maximal accordé
par subvention est de 50 000 $ par année, pour une période maximale de 2
ans.
* Un montant de 1 000 000 $ est disponible pour les demandes pertinentes
par rapport aux objectifs de l'Institut du développement et de la santé
des enfants et des adolescents (IDSEA) des IRSC.
* Un montant de 150 000 $ est disponible pour les demandes pertinentes par
rapport aux objectifs de l'Institut de la santé des Autochtones (ISA) des
IRSC.
* Un montant de 500 000 $ est disponible pour les demandes pertinentes par
rapport aux objectifs de l'Institut du vieillissement (IV) des IRSC. * Un
montant de 100 000 $ est disponible pour les demandes pertinentes par

Pré-annonce de la première activité de recherche en partenariat –
hypertension
L'Alliance mondiale contre les maladies chroniques, un consortium
d'organisations de santé incluant les IRSC, a annoncé, le 8 décembre 2010,
son intention de lancer un appel de demandes sur la réalisation de
recherche sur l'hypertension dans les pays à revenu moyen ou faible,
invitant les chercheurs à soumettre des propositions pour améliorer les
approches efficaces de prévention et du contrôle de l'hypertension.

La Revue Canadienne de Santé Mentale Communautaire (RCSMC) est une
publication interdisciplinaire qui vise à présenter de l'information sur
le bien-être mental des Canadiens et de leurs collectivités. La RCSMC vous
invite à faire parvenir vos soumissions à un numéro spécial parrainé par
l'Initiative sur la santé de la population canadienne (ISPC) de l'Institut
canadien d'information sur la santé (ICIS). Ce numéro spécial sera
consacré à la promotion de la santé mentale du point de vue de la santé de
la population et portera une attention particulière à l'équité et au rôle
des déterminants sociaux de la santé. Nous souhaitons obtenir des exposés
qui explorent différentes perspectives de recherche et de pratique dans
diverses disciplines, rédigés par des professionnels de la santé et des
services sociaux, les responsables de l'élaboration de politiques et les
décideurs en matière de santé mentale ainsi que les chercheurs
universitaires. Les exposés peuvent aborder les sujets suivants :
• Les liens entre les facteurs sociaux (comme l'emploi, l'équilibre de vie
et l'environnement social) et le bien-être mental;
• Les risques et les facteurs de protection liés à la prévention de la
maladie mentale et à la promotion de la santé mentale;
• Les initiatives et les réformes stratégiques qui contribuent à améliorer
les résultats pour la santé mentale, les services en santé mentale et
l'accès aux ressources;
• Évaluation des interventions visant à changer le système
• Stratégies et programmes d'innovation visant sur l'équité dans la
promotion de la santé mentale;

PHIRNET-RISP et les Centres de collaboration nationaux (CCN) en santé
publique des populations ont le plaisir d'annoncer l'opportunité d'obtenir
un bourse de recherche interventionnelle en santé des populations (deux
ans, à temps plein). Le but de cette aide financière est de faire une
étude de cas en profondeur, un évaluation de mise en oeuvre de
l'élaboration du programme collectif de Centres de collaboration nationale
en santé publique. Le montant du prix est de 40,000 $ par année (pendant
deux ans). Une allocation de recherché de 5,000 $ par année (pendant deux
ans) sera également fournie, pour appuyer la collect de données et
l'échange des connaissances.

L'Institut de recherche en santé publique de l'Université de Montréal
(IRSPUM) offre des bourses d'excellence au doctorat et au postdoctorat.
Les bourses de doctorat, d'une valeur de 20,000$ et d'une durée d'un an,
visent à favoriser le recrutement d'étudiants et à les soutenir pendant la
première année d'inscription au doctorat dans un des domaines de recherche
en santé publique de l'IRSPUM. Les bourses de postdoctorat, d'une
valeur de 30,000$ par année et d'une durée de 2 ans, appuient le
recrutement et le soutien de jeunes chercheurs dans le développement d'une
recherche dans l'un des domaines de recherche en santé publique de
l'IRSPUM.

La subvention de formation des Instituts de recherche en santé du Canada
dans les interventions auprès des populations pour la prévention des
maladies chroniques : Un programme pancanadien qui offre des bourses de
formation interdisciplinaire aux étudiants à temps plein des cycles
supérieurs et aux postdoctorants. Le programme est une initiative de
quatre établissements - Université de Waterloo, Unité de recherche sur le
tabac de l'Ontario/Université de Toronto, Université de l'Alberta et
Université de la Colombie-Britannique - en collaboration avec 65 mentors
de 18 établissements dans neuf provinces. Le programme est financé par les
IRSC, la Fondation des maladies du cœur du Canada, et Action cancer
Ontario et s'appuie sur le succès du Programme stratégique de formation en
recherche sur le tabagisme et offre une expérience en formation
spécialisée et interdisciplinaire qui complète les programmes habituels au
niveau des cycles supérieurs et du postdoctorat.
Des allocations de formation d'un an aux taux des IRSC et des bourses
complémentaires pour les étudiants qui ont d'autres bourses sont offertes.

La Communauté de pratique canadienne en approches écosystémiques de la
santé est heureuse de lancer son appel de candidatures pour la formation
en approches écosystémiques de la santé conjointement avec la University
of Northern British Columbia à Prince George en Colombie-Britannique. Ce
cours aura lieu du 5 au 16 juin 2011.
Le cours se divise en deux parties :
1. Atelier sur les approches écosystémiques de la santé (du 5 au 8 juin)
accueillant environ 25 participants ou participantes animé par une équipe
composée de plusieurs des membres de l'équipe pan-canadienne de
CoPEH-Canada; L'atelier est offert tant aux professionnels qu'aux
étudiants des cycles supérieurs.
2. École d'été sur les approches écosystémiques de la santé (comprenant
l'atelier – du 5 au 16 juin) accueillant un maximum de 15 participants ou
participantes devant répondre aux exigences d'un cours de trois crédits de
cycle supérieur de l'UNBC. L'école d'été n'est offerte qu'aux étudiants et
étudiantes des cycles supérieurs
L'appel à candidature pour l'atelier et l'école d'été sera ouvert jusqu'au
28 mars 2011.
Bourses de formation. Les étudiants et étudiantes intéressés à participer
aux 11 jours de formation peuvent postuler pour l'une des cinq bourses de
1000$. Ces bourses visent à aider les récipiendaires à couvrir les coûts
de leur participation au cours. L'appel pour les bourses est ouvert
jusqu'au 28 mars 2011.

Possibilités d'emploi
La division de l'analyse de la santé (DAS) tiens à annoncer la possibilité
de l'emploi à la suite des étudiants à la maîtrise actuellement inscrits à
un programme d'études supérieures liées à la santé.
DAS est une source de recherche sur la santé à Statistique Canada. Notre
mandat consiste à produire des données de grande qualité, pertinentes et
exhaustives sur l'état de santé de la population et sur le système de
soins de santé.
