Announcement of FWSA vacancies in the executive committee

APOLOGIES FOR CROSS POSTINGS.

Dear colleagues and friends,

Further to our recent announcement of the 2015 Feminist and Women's Studies
Association (FWSA) conference

http://ayonadatta.wordpress.com/2014/05/06/save-the-date-the-2015-feminist-and-womens-studies-association-conference/

I am writing as Co-Chair (with Kate Sang) of FWSA to announce two
opportunities to serve on the FWSA executive committee. The FWSA executive
takes decisions on the management and direction of the FWSA. More
information here http://fwsablog.org.uk/about/executive-committee/

1. Membership officer - Responsible for overseeing membership of the
association, maintaining records and engaging in the strategic management
of the FWSA

2. Essay competition officer - Managing the annual FWSA essay prize and
editing the association special issue.

For both roles, eligibility is based on FWSA membership and residence in UK
or Ireland. Both roles will have to shadow the current outgoing officers
for a short period before taking this on independently.

It will be nice to see more early career feminist scholars represented in
the executive. Please get in touch with Ayona Datta (a.datta@leeds.ac.uk)
or Kate Sang (katesang@gmail.com) if you wish to discuss this further.

The* FWSA <http://fwsa.org.uk>*is a UK-based network promoting feminist
research and teaching, and women's studies nationally and internationally.
Through its executive committee, the FWSA is involved in developing policy
on issues of central importance to feminist scholars in further and higher
education, supporting postgraduate events and enabling feminist
research. Committed to raising awareness of women's studies, feminist
research and women-related issues in secondary and tertiary education, the
FWSA liaises regularly with other gender-related research and community
networks as well as with policy groups.

Best wishes

Ayona

New details about the Loretta Saunders Scholarship Fund

Here are some new details about the Loretta Saunders Scholarship Fund (from
Darryl Leroux). The Community Foundation of Nova Scotia is managing the
financial side and can now give out tax receipts. When donating, please say
if you'd like one, and include your address if so. And please circulate
widely. The fund is now at about $37,000, which means it will be able to
award at least $1,500 per annum.

*LORETTA SAUNDERS SCHOLARSHIP FUND*

Who: Cheryl Maloney – President, Nova Scotia Native Women's Association

Darryl Leroux – Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology and
Criminology, Saint Mary's University [Loretta's honours thesis supervisor] (
darryl.leroux@smu.ca)

Delilah Terriak-Saunders – Loretta's sister

Why: Raising money for a scholarship fund in Loretta Saunders' honour that
will provide financial support to indigenous women studying in Atlantic
Canada.

This is a community-based fund that will be administered jointly by
representatives of the Nova Scotia Native Women's Association, a faculty
member from Loretta's home department at Saint Mary's, and one of Loretta's
family members, plus 3-5 additional indigenous community and university
representatives. The awards will be tenable at universities in Atlantic
Canada. In addition to its primary function, the Fund will act as a means
through which to educate the wider community about violence against
indigenous women. The Community Foundation of Nova Scotia will be
administering the financial side of the Fund in a transparent manner.

What: Donate as little as $5 as an individual, organize a fundraiser among
your friends or in your communities and/or ask your employer, union,
and/or university to donate to the fund.

How: 1. Send an email money transfer to
lorettasaunderslegacy@gmai<lorettasaunderslegacy@gmail.com>
l.com
2. Send a cheque To: "Community Foundation of Nova Scotia." Memo: Loretta
Saunders Scholarship Fund. Community Foundation of Nova Scotia, 806-1888
Brunswick Street, Halifax, NS, B3J 3J8

In order to maintain a scholarship or bursary into the future, we need a
minimum of $25,000. We are aiming for multiple awards per year.

We intend to send all donors frequent updates as the fund develops. Once it
is established, you will have the option of receiving regular updates on
award recipients and related projects. We are also able to issue tax
receipts. Please advise us if you'd like to receive one, with your enclosed
mailing address.
